Situada en una posición privilegiada, presidiendo los jardines de Pereda y frente al nuevo Centro Botín se encuentra el monumento que homenajea al personaje que da nombre a estos jardines tan característicos del centro de Santander.
Jose María de Pereda, uno de los cántabros más ilustres, destacado principalmente por sus novelas costumbristas de Cantabria recibe su homenaje en forma de escultura. Una estructura de piedra con relieves que recuerdan las escenas de sus obras más famosas como fueron Peñas arriba o Escenas Montañesas, y narran, en este caso, la vida en la montaña de la época.
Existen otros lugares en Santander que hacen referencia a José María de Pereda y a sus obras, como el fragmento de “Sotileza” en 611 metros lineales que podemos hallar en la rampa que recibe el mismo nombre, o la representación de los personajes más significativos de esta misma obra en una fachada de la Calle Alta, en el inicio (o final) del parque del agua, sin duda algo que tienes que ver en directo.
